Addressing health disparities throughout our communities has always been a passion of mine. This passion was reinvigorated after having my own children and recognizing how important support, particularly in that first year, can be. But what happens when families don't have that same support? Breastfeeding in particular can feel very difficult at times. All families deserve access to education and support when it comes to breastfeeding. The same goes for providers, regardless of geographic area or demographics of the population served.

This is why I joined the San Diego County Breastfeeding Coalition in 2019.  The coalition has played an integral role in the San Diego community and surrounding areas for years, providing education, support, advocacy and more. I consider this work to be essential; however, the coalition cannot do this important work without the necessary funding. While the coalition regularly applies for a variety of grants, we also rely on donations from those who share our mission.
