Please help donate to SDCBC! This money will go toward scholarships for IBCLCs!  An IBCLC really helped me through my breastfeeding journey.  Before having a baby I knew I wanted to breastfeed. During my pregnancy I dreamed about the day when I would meet her and all the time I would spend bonding with her while nursing. I really wasn’t prepared with what exactly to do or what to expect  when she arrived. I ended up exclusively pumping in hopes to get her back to the breast. I spent so many hours and days pumping. Missing out on that bonding time. Trying to nurse but feeling rejected and heartbroken.  As a last resort I found the lactation network and they put me in contact with a local IBCLC. Before I even met with her I decided to stop stressing about pumping and to spend the day with my daughter in bed doing skin to skin. I did not pressure her to nurse at all. The next morning I did the same and after her first nap she latched! We have been going ever since. It was so emotional switching from bottle feeding to nursing. Our whole routine changed. The IBCLC still helped us through the growing pains of this new transition. My daughter went from sleeping through the night to not so much and it worried me. But the IBCLC talked me through it and reassured me. I did have a painful latch on one side and it turns out my daughter had tongue and lip tie and that was probably why I struggled so much in the beginning. I still can’t believe I was able to have this nursing relationship with my daughter after all. We are still going now at 14 months.  I think education and support are vital for new moms when it comes to nursing and I am so happy to be helping SDCBC.  

San Diego County Breastfeeding Coalitions's #GivingTuesday campaign will support scholarships for UCSD's Lactation Education program in order to increase lactation support in underserved communities.

Our #GivingTuesday campaign will run November 16th through December 1st, 2021. All funds donated during these dates make a HUGE difference but donations given on #GivingTuesday (11/30) will be DOUBLED. That's right! All donations on #GivingTuesday will be matched up to $15,000.

In partnership with UCSD Extension's Global Lactation Alliance Program, SDCBC offers scholarships for community leaders who are pursuing LEC or IBCLC education. Each year the Coalition will announce several scholarship opportunities and select individuals vividly exhibiting a passion to serve San Diego families.
