Best Practices for Providing Inclusive Lactating Support To The Members Of The LGBTQIAP+ Community
Objectives:
1. Describe LGBTQIA+ identities and couple structures
2. Discuss the different components of the Transgender Identity
3. Identify 4 possible lactation scenarios with different LGBTQIA+ family structures
4. Describe 4 different birthing situations (natural conception, surrogate, IVF, adoption) and the relationship to the lactation journey
5. Identify 3 best practices for providing lactation support to the LGBTQIA+ community
6. Describe 2 positive outcomes of using inclusive language during consults
7. Summarize inappropriate questions, statements, and actions that should be excluded from a consult
8.Discuss appropriate phrasing for questions and statements that are conducive to building rapport
9. Explain how to discuss alternative options in a sensitive manner without assuming or categorizing individuals
10. Identify different approaches to lactation for folks who are undergoing hormone therapy
11. Discuss the crucial role of a practitioner's speaking tone when communicating with clients
12. Demonstrate how a well intended message can be counterproductive and harmful
13. Review and explain possible client-practitioner scenarios through formulated role playing scripts
